Using the Facility

The Shoreway Environmental Center is open to the public. Our friendly staff is on hand to direct you to the right area within the facility and can assist you with any questions you may have.

TRANSFER STATION

The “Transfer Station” is the place to bring construction & demolition materials, yard trimmings, appliances, tires, scrap metal mattresses and trash. Once you drop your materials off, our team ensures they are properly recycled or disposed.

PUBLIC RECYCLING CENTER

The “Public Recycling Center” is where you can drop off a wide variety of materials (see Public Recycling Center for a comprehensive list of acceptable items). Materials collected here are sent to various businesses for further processing.

TIPPING FLOOR GUIDELINES

  • Enter facility using 1 of 2 lanes
  • Stop at scale house
  • Follow traffic signs and watch for traffic control and spotters
  • Provide enough space between cars
  • Keep close to vehicle while unloading
  • Keep children in vehicle at all times while on the transfer station floor
  • If pulling away and going back to cleanup (keep eye contact with loader operators)
  • Spoking is not permitted on the facility

RESIDENTIAL & COMMERCIAL COLLECTION SERVICES

Recology of San Mateo began providing residential and commercial collection services on January 1, 2011 to South Bay Waste Management Authority (RethinkWaste.org) member agencies. For more information please visit www.recologysanmateocounty.com.

The RethinkWaste service area includes Atherton, Belmont, Burlingame, East Palo Alto, Foster City, Hillsborough, Menlo Park, Redwood City, San Carlos, San Mateo, the County of San Mateo and the West Bay Sanitary District.

  • Liquid wastes or sludge
  • Batteries of any type or size
  • Hot ashes
  • Sealed containers
  • Animal waste
  • Dead animals
  • Oils and solvents
  • Medical waste
  • Radioactive or reactive materials
  • Any type of hazardous waste
  • Treated wood

Hours of Public Use of Transfer Facility:

  • Monday – Friday 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM
  • Saturday & Sunday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, & New Year’s Day.

Hours for Public Recycling Center:

  • Monday – Saturday 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM
  • Closed on Sunday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, & New Year’s Day
